Darr was the biggest thing that happened to me, states Juhi Chawla!
It was very early in her career after Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak that actress Juhi Chawla got the chance to work with late filmmaker Yashji in Chandni (1989). Though it was a cameo appearance, but it gave her the opportunity to work with Mr. Chopra for the first time.
Later she went on to do Aaina in 1993 in his production house, but the big opportunity came up as Darr. “When I signed Darr (1993), it was the biggest thing that happened to me. The film took me to my career’s peak, as it was a big deal then, as it is even today, to be a Yash Chopra heroine. He was the only one who presented his heroines well and gave them an equal platform alongside the heroes.
“Working with him in Darr was an overwhelming experience. Yashji was always warm and friendly. He put me at my ease, but still I found it hard to express myself before him. His focus was on his work and he was quick about it. I never heard him shout at anyone. Recently, I met him at Amitabh Bachchan saab’s party and he was joking with me. Whenever we met he was always affectionate towards me,” remembers Juhi.
Going by her words, it is obvious that Juhi too is badly affected with the loss of such a great filmmaker. Definitely no words can explain the sadness your death has caused to your loved ones, Yash Ji. RIP!
